Sending in Absentia

If you are expected to turn up yourself (see Arrangements, Making), this could be interpreted as a snub (see Avoidance, Obvious). Best let other Mummies know of your intentions if it’s a one-on-one arrangement with children, to avoid unintentional offence, but of course you are at liberty to schedule your time as best suits your needs (see Obligation, No).

Treatment of

Your Nanny is your best friend in the universe (see Co-dependence). Always treat Nanny with professionalism and respect. Be clear about Nanny’s duties, with yourself and with the Nanny (see Speak Out Loud, Don’t Just Think It). It is a professional relationship and Nanny must know what is expected of her (see Firm, Don’t be Afraid to be; Fear, Show No). It is a little surreal to have another woman in your home, servicing your domestic needs (excluding conjugal rights), but if she understands from the start that whilst child is asleep she may have light domestic duties to complete, and if you understand that she has a degree in childcare from an overseas non-English-speaking land and does not want to spend her time cleaning bathrooms when you advertised for a Nanny, you may in fact form a formidable team and together raise happy and healthy children.
